MS-Bunny Easter Tour

31 March

Hop-Hop-Hop - MS-Easter Bunny is here! The old lab tradition continues – every year before the Easter break we organize the famous Mass-Spec Bunny Easter tour around the MPI CBG and CSBD labs. We share sweets, chocolate eggs and smiles with our colleagues and the members of the institute staff. This year, the MS-Bunny was assisted by our lab fellows Viditha and postdoc Silvia .

Presentions at the DGMS 2026

March 2026

We presented our latest research in proteomics and lipidomiocs at the 57th Annual Conference of German Society for Mass Spectrometry (DGMS) in Leipzig. Our postdocs Ignacy Rzagalinski and Silvia Radrezza, and PhD student Viditha Rao talked about ms--based absolute quantification,  neorodegenetarive biomarkers in biofluids and quality control for shotgun lipidomics.

Farewell to our postdoc Dr. Vannur Garikapati

February 2026

We say goodbye to our postdoctoral fellow Dr. Vannur Garikapati. Following four years of successful lipidomics research Vannur is leaving the lab to build new mass spectrometry Facility at the Medical School of the University Bielefeld. Congratulations on the new step in career development! We are very proud of you, Vannur!

PhD done!

22 January

Congratulations to our student Jonas Pöhls on successfully defending of the PhD thesis “The Dark Proteome: The extent and impact of phenotypic mutations in prokaryotes”! Jonas' project is challenging interlaboratory work between Agnes Toth-Petroczy (MPI-CBG/CSBD) and Shevchenko labs. We are very proud of you, Jonas!

VIII Xmass Updates Omics Flash Talks Symposium

December 2025

We are happy to invite you to our traditional Omics Flash Talks Symposium XMass Updates! As every year, we expect 15 fantastic speakers with very hot topics in ms-omics, instrumentation, software and applications. The event will be held in hybrid format – no registration is required.

9th December 2-5 pm CET (talks)

In-person: Dresden Uniklinikum Johanstadter Campus, CSBD building Top Floor Auditorium

On-line: Zoom (talks only)

The program is here: XMass Updates Program

Looking very much forward seeing you! Let’s get Updated!

MS-Nikolaus candy-tour

5 December

Have you been on the straight and narrow this year? It's an old lab tradition – every year on St. Nicklas Day, we go around the MPI CBG and CSBD labs to share sweets and chocolates with our colleagues and the members of the institute staff. This year, our Mass Spec Nikolaus duo, PhD students Viditha and Jonas, were in charge of the heavy candy baskets.

"QC Shotgun" project was presented on 4th ILS Conference

October 2025

Our postdoctoral fellow, Silvia Radrezza, delivered an oral presentation entitled 'Instrument QC for Shotgun Lipidomics' at the 4th International Lipidomics Society (ILS) Conference in Madrid. This was the first presentation of 'QC Shotgun', our community-supported project. In collaboration with scientists from eight laboratories across Europe, we are developing an instrumental quality control procedure for shotgun lipidomics. We are happy to be leading this very strong community effort! https://ilsconf2025madrid.com/programa

New intrumentation in the lab!

September 2025

Great news – the new Astral Orbitrap mass spectrometer (Thermo Fisher Scientific) is up and running in our lab! It has been long awaited by the MPI CBG community to support high-end proteomics applications, from cross-linking protein complexes and condensates to in-depth quantification of organelles, organoids, and tissues. Our mass spectrometry proteomics team has completed the training course and is ready for real-life projects. We are looking forward to making new discoveries!
