Accessibility Declaration

This accessibility statement applies to the website of the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics (MPI-CBG) published at www.mpi-cbg.de.

As a public body according to the EU Directive 2016/2012 (Web Accessibility Directive), we are obligated to meet the legal provisions outlined in the Disability Equality Act (BGG) and the Barrier-Free Information Technology Ordinance (BITV 2.0).

  • The video header on the homepage has no audio or text alternative, and cannot be stopped, paused, or hidden
  • Inconsistent or incorrect use of HTML elements and ARIA roles can make it difficult to distinguish landmark regions and understand content structure
  • Some contrast ratios for text-to-background fall below the WCAG 2.1 AA standard
  • Not all navigation elements are accessible via keyboard navigation
  • Some UI elements lack accessible text labels
  • Some UI elements are inaccessible at narrow screen widths
  • Images of text lack accessible text labels
  • Keyboard focus indicator is not visible
  • Language parameter is not accurately declared on partially- or fully- translated pages and content elements
  • Several element id values are invalid
  • Many PDF documents are not accessible

Reason for not being fully accessible

We are continuously working on improving this website for all users. However, due to the large amount of material we provide, it has not yet been possible to make all content and services fully accessible. We are committed to removing barriers to access in a timely manner, and thus created the roadmap outlined below to guide us toward this goal.

Ongoing efforts to increase accessibility

In pursuit of barrier-free access to our website, the MPI-CBG plans to improve the experience of all users by:

  • Making focus indicators visible and functional
  • Improving keyboard navigation, including introduction of a "skip to main content" button and ensuring that elements accessible via hover states are also accessible via focus states
  • Revising HTML syntax and ARIA usage to clearly indicate landmark regions and content relationships
  • Correcting insufficient color contrasts between text and background elements
  • Adding alternative text to non-decorative images that also lack captions
  • Adding and clarifying accessible text labels for buttons and links
  • Setting language parameters to accurately reflect the language used by a page or content element
  • Improving mobile layouts to resolve inaccessible UI elements

This declaration was prepared on Sept 15, 2025. It was last reviewed on Sept 18, 2025.

This website was last tested in Sept 2025 against the BITV 2.0 / WCAG 2.1 AA standard. This test of a representative sample of pages was carried out internally with the help of the WCAG-EM Report Tool.
