Two PhD students of the MPI-CBG were awarded the Otto Hahn Medal for young researchers in the Max Planck Society. Kirstin Meyer, former PhD student in the research lab of Marino Zerial received the award for the development of a multi-scale model of bile fluid dynamic in the liver and the discovery of the apical surface of hepatocytes as a mechano-sensor regulating organ size. The second awardee, Jaroslav Icha, was a PhD student in the lab of Caren Norden. He will receive the prize for outstanding new insights into neuronal migration and lamination in the developing vertebrate retina using innovative microscopy approaches.
The medal will be awarded to all winners on the occasion of the Annual Meeting of the Max Planck Society in Heidelberg on 13 June 2018.

The Max Planck Society has honored up to 30 young scientists and researchers each year with the Otto Hahn Medal for outstanding scientific achievements since 1978. The award comes with a monetary sum of 7500 euros as recognition. The prize is intended to motivate especially gifted junior scientists and researchers to pursue a future university or research career. Since 1978, more than 940 scientists and researchers have been awarded the Otto Hahn Medal.
