600 researchers from all over the world at the MPI-CBG and the neighboring Center for Systems Biology (CSBD) are almost always active - not only during the Dresden Science Night on June 14, 2019, but especially then and they offered a spectacular program.
Around 900 visitors experienced an exciting and colorful summer night in the institute: water samples were taken from the pond by the institute and the kids could visit the zebrafish in the basement of the institute. The youngest kids were able to work as scientists, pipette, and look through a microscope. Visitors could also discover the inner life of fruit flies, zebrafish, and a mouse liver with virtual reality. An exhibition featured women in science, at the fruit fly station, visitors could estimate how many flies were bustling around in a tube and next to it, scientists showed how skull bones develop. Up high in the second floor, a chain fountain fell to the floor and visitors could get to know the physics behind it. Scientists gave insights into the liver using transparent liver tissue as an example, developers of a software tool showed how biological images can be visualized and how living cells can be tracked. As every year, there was also information on embryonic stem cells and animal welfare. Two lectures on animal caretaking and gene loss were given in the auditorium.
A total of 39,000 visitors attended 700 events throughout Dresden and the surrounding area for the Dresden Science Night 2019! Many thanks to all helpers and to the many interested visitors.
