Regeneration secrets of the worm

Boehringer Ingelheim Fellowship for James Cleland

James Cleland, a PhD student in the research lab of Jochen Rink, received a Boehringer Ingelheim Fellowship. James wants to know why some animals have the extraordinary ability to regenerate missing body parts, while others don't. Specifically, James is comparing different planarian flatworm species to tease apart the molecular mechanisms that allow many worms to regrow a head. Not all planarian species are able to do this.

Congratulations, James!

The Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds awards PhD fellowships to outstanding junior scientists in internationally leading laboratories. The goal is to promote basic research in biomedicine by providing the best young, up-and-coming scientists with comprehensive support during their PhD phase.
