The central mission of the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics (MPI-CBG), “How do cells form tissues?” is still the same since the foundation of the institute, but it kept evolving. Over the years, physics, organoids, and systems biology joined the interdisciplinary research structure, and recently mathematics was added to advance our understanding of complex biological systems.
Likewise, the PhD program of the institute, the International Max Planck Research School, has been adapting over the years. The new name, IMPRS Bio-MAP—International Max Planck Research School for Biology, Mathematics, AI, and Physics, reflects the continued evolution of the doctoral program and the uniquely interdisciplinary character of the institute The goal of the name change was that every intern, doctoral researcher, and research group leader sees themselves represented in the name of their doctoral school.
The current PhD call is now open for applicants! We are looking forward to new young scientists from biology, maths, physics, and everywhere in-between for the IMPRS Bio-MAP community.
