Creating to understand

Science Café ESPRESSO on Synthetic Biology

18 October 2016, 8pm
SCIENCE CAFÉ Espresso: Creating to Understand - Synthetic Biology

GrooveStation Dresden (Katharinenstr, 11-13)

Synthetic Biology is a new approach in the life sciences: Researchers copy life, brick by brick, to create artificial cells. They might help to advance in understanding the origin of life, but might also be the foundation of new therapies or new energy sources. But what about dual use? Where are the ethical borderlines? - Artificial? Natural? Which one is it?

These experts will be available for discussion:
- Dr. Dora Tang, Research Group Leader at the MPI-CBG
- Dr. Steffen Albrecht, Office of Technology Assessment at the German Parliament
- Dr. Jakob Schweizer, Coordination Assistant for the Research Network MaxSynBio

The ESPRESSO version of the Dresden Science Café is short and strong like an espresso: your quick shot of science. 1 hour of intense discussions with experts on a hardcore science topic.
