Dr. John Tooze: A Life around Biology
John Tooze has been an important mover in research and scientific publishing both in Europe and in the USA. He was running EMBO between 1973 and 1994 and he made EMBO the central player in Europe in molecular biology that it still is today. He started EMBO Journal and has written important textbooks. From Heidelberg he moved to  London where he was the right hand of Paul Nurse and helped to merge ICRF and the Cancer research campaign. When Nurse moved to New York to become the President of Rockefeller University, John Tooze took up the position of  Vice-President for scientific and facility operations.
