Our portfolio

Most areas of protein biochemistry are technically and topically covered in our facility. We have a broad experimental portfolio, ranging from molecular cloning and protein purification to biophysical characterization of your target protein. Furthermore, we have hands-on experience with many different protein types, including intrinsically disordered proteins, membrane proteins, protein complexes, but also soluble proteins. Our protocols are directly available for internal users as templates in Labfolder

As a user facility, we primarily focus on training our users to become proficient in protein biochemistry, regardless of their background. Users typically carry out protein production, purification and characterisation independently using the infrastructure provided by the facility. However, we also offer a limited number of experimental pipelines as a service.

We are dedicated to helping you with your protein biochemistry needs. Simply reach out by Rocketchat or by email.

Consumables

The Protein Biochemistry facility provides a small variety of in-house produced consumables for internal users. Amongst others, this includes:

All consumables can be ordered over PPMS here or obtained from our in-house store.

Services

The facility performs certain complex experimental pipelines as a service. This means that you provide a sample or conceptual framework that the facility subsequently uses to generate new resources or data. This includes, amongst others, the following:

  • single-domain antibody discovery: we generate binders against your favorite protein. These binders can serve many applications, including super-resolution imaging, structural characterization (e.g., as fiducial marker or as stabilizing agent for protein conformations), and functional studies (e.g., as selective inhibitors)
  • complex molecular cloning: we construct base plasmids for protein expression tailored to your needs (e.g., co-expression of multiple proteins or novel tags or fusion proteins) and help with complex cloning tasks
  • precise determination of the molecular weight of protein (complexes): we perform analytical size-exclusion chromatography in combination with static light scattering to determine the monodispersity and absolute molecular weight of your protein sample

To access these services, visit us at our weekly clinic (Tuesdays from 2-3 PM, Atrium MPI-CBG, no appointment needed) or drop us a line by email.
