Postdoctoral Position

The Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics in Dresden, Germany, is a highly visible and international research institute focused on cell and developmental biology. Currently about 500 employees are working at the institute, where half are from abroad with 53 nations represented. MPI-CBG has twice been awarded the title “Best Place to Work” (Academia and postdocs) by the journal “The Scientist”. It tops the list of the top ten research institutions outside the United States in 2009, and is the only German institution listed.

We are offering a

Postdoctoral Position (m/f)


in the laboratory of Dora Tang as a part of a collaborative 1.3 million Euro grant titled “De novo evolution of protocells with functional genomes”. This project lies in the area of Origin of Life research and involves using multidisciplinary approaches to determine the physio-chemical factors which would have driven the transition from a molecular world to a biological world. This project is part of a network whose two project partners are based in Dresden and Munich.

Applicants should be ambitious, highly motivated and creative with expertise in biophysics, physical chemistry, synthetic chemistry or biochemistry. Experience in protocell models; soft matter physics; enzyme catalysis; simulations and analytical techniques such as ITC are preferred. The candidate will be able to work both individually and collaboratively within the small network.
