Postdoctoral Position in Fluid Robotics & Biophysics

Wouldn’t it be cool if we could control the physics of organism development? The Kreysing lab recently succeeded to optically induce hydrodynamic flows within cells and developing embryos (FLUCS: Mittasch et al, Nature Cell Biology 20, 2018, Mittasch et al, J Cell Biol, 2020, Nat Phys, in press).

As a next step, we plan to refine this technique to gain full tactile control of micron scale motion, for which we need your help.  Together, we will leverage FLUCS for the active micro-rheology of phase-separated compartments, as well as precision micro-manipulations of organelles within cells and early embryos. By this approach we aim to reveal structure-function relationships underlying cellular organization and to gain control of central developmental programs. Long term aims include enhanced clinical diagnostics and early development assistance.

Your Qualifications

We seek an outstanding postdoctoral researcher with a strong background in biophysics, quantitative biology, biotechnology, robotics or related disciplines. Candidates should be familiar with at least several of the following techniques:
Light Microscopy, optics (i.e. optical tweezers), cell culture, C. elegans research, programming (Python, Matlab, Keras and/or Labview), machine learning,  and quantitative data analysis. Equally important are outstanding creativity and enthusiasm for interdisciplinary science. Excellent English communication skills (spoken and in writing) are required.

This full-time position is available immediately. Salary and social benefits will be in accordance with the regulations of the German TVöD Bund (salary agreement for public service employees).
