Facility Leader (m/f/d) of the Protein Expression, Purification and Characterisation (PEPC) Facility of the MPI-CBG

The Protein Expression, Purification and Characterisation (PEPC) group is a core facility of the MPI-CBG. The facility supports users wishing to express and purify proteins, assisting them from experimental design, cloning, expression, purification through to the final biophysical and biochemical characterization.

We are offering a position as

Facility Leader (m/f/d) of the Protein Expression, Purification and Characterisation (PEPC) Facility of the MPI-CBG

Overview
The Protein Expression, Purification and Characterisation (PEPC) group is a core facility of the MPI-CBG. The facility supports users wishing to express and purify proteins, assisting them from experimental design, cloning, expression, purification through to the final biophysical and biochemical characterization (https://www.mpi-cbg.de/services-facilities/core-facilities/protein-expression-purification-and-characterization/services/). To this end, expertise, tools, reagents and equipment are made available to the users by the facility. A staff of currently 4 people are helping approximately 50 users from 19 groups located on the Dresden campus.

Main tasks and responsibilities
We are seeking a highly motivated individual with a strong background in protein chemistry, protein purification and / or protein biophysical characterisation, who is service-oriented and open to collaboration and discussion. The successful candidate will design and implement workflows for the expression, purification and biophysical characterization of mainly recombinant proteins. For biophysical characterisation of proteins, the successful candidate will help / train users in techniques such as circular dichroism, dynamic and static light scattering, and thermophoresis. The Facility Leader is the first point of contact with users wishing to start a project and will give advice about the strategy and purification while typically the project will be carried out by the user supported by the facility staff. She/he will supervise the facility staff, currently consisting of 4 employees (2 PhD scientists and 2 technicians).  As part of the biochemistry facility cluster, the successful candidate will interact closely with fellow services and facility leaders of the high throughput screening, antibody and mass spec facilities.

The candidate should hold a PhD degree and have several years of experience in protein biochemistry. Preferably, the candidate will have a strong background and well documented experience in the biophysical characterisation of proteins and/or protein structural studies. The candidate should be fluent in English and have excellent peoples skills with ability to interact with researchers at all career stages (students, postdocs and group leaders) in order to discuss strategy, trouble shoot projects and provide progress updates. The candidate will report to the head of the MPI-CBG Services and Facilities and interact closely with other facility leaders for cross facility workflows (projects involving multiple facilities).

Our Offer
