MPI-CBG Postdoctoral Program

At MPI-CBG there are about 75 postdoctoral fellows in about 25 research labs, representing 20 different nationalities. In order to foster collaborations and a sense of community among the postdocs, a Postdoctoral Program has been established. The program includes a yearly postdoc retreat, invited seminar speakers, career workshops and representation and participation in Faculty Meetings. In a survey about the top places to work for postdocs conducted among readers of The Scentist, the MPI-CBG was ranked number one for institutions outside of the United States.

If you would like to do postdoctoral research at CBG, please apply to individual group leaders.

We are planning a Cross-disciplinary Postdoctoral Fellows Program in collaboration with theoretical biologists at the nearby Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems. Postdocs in this program will work more independently and will not be bound to a single research lab. Thus they will share in and add to the highly interdisciplinary and collaborative biological community that we have in Dresden. Applicants will apply centrally with a research project to a committee made up of participating faculty. If you are interested in the Program please contact Joe Howard (howard@mpi-cbg.de).

Nov. 18, 2010 - UPDATE on accident insurance:  there will be a meeting with an MPG representative to discuss a "comprehensive insurance package" for stipend holders that will include health, accident, and liability insurance.  If you have any questions, email your postdoc representative (Ilya Levental or Arianne Dimitrov) ASAP.

Nov. 15, 2010 - The MPG recommends all employees to have accident insurance in case of disability or injury on the job.  As of this year, stipend holders are no longer covered by the "social" accident insurance and should therefore strongly consider private accident insurance.  Your health insurance and the common insurance of the MPI will still cover if you need urgent treatment in case of an accident during your work.

If you are interested in more information about the private insurance, see Madlen Koerner in the Personnel Office.

Sep. 14, 2010 - IMPORTANT: after two years of postdoctoral work, MPI-CBG postdocs may be eligible for an increase in their stipend compensation.  For more details, ask your RGL or the Personnel Department.
