News Details2010 HFSP grants to MPI-CBG researchersThe Human Frontier Science Program (HFSP) awards for 2010 have been announced – with successful applications of MPI-CBG researchers. Jan Huisken has been awarded the highly prestigious and competitive Career Development Award. This award is designed to assist HFSP Long Term Fellows in their transition to independence following their return to their home country – it comes with a total amount of 300,000 USD for 3 years to support establishing an own research program. Jan recently joined the MPI-CBG in Dresden having completed his HFSP Long Term Fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco, USA. At present, he is building up his group that works on a dynamic multi-dimensional map of the embryonic zebrafish vasculature. Thomas Müller-Reichert has been awarded a Program Grant. Thomas used to be head of the EM Technology Development at MPI-CBG and is now group leader and head of the core facility imaging at the Medical Theoretical Center of TU Dresden. The grant is awarded for novel collaborations among teams of scientists working in different countries. Thomas will share his award with Daniel Needleman (School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Harvard University, Cambridge, USA) and Marie Delattre (Laboratory of Molecular Biology of the Cell, Ecole Normale Superieure de Lyon, France). Their joint project will study mitotic spindles in nematodes and use approaches that range from comparative biophysics to evolutionary biology Iva Tolic-Norrelykke has been awarded a Young Investigator Grant. The Young Investigator Grant is awarded for novel collaborations among teams of young scientists working in different countries, all of whom are within the first five years after obtaining an independent laboratory. The joint research program aims at understanding the molecular architecture and mechanical properties of the kinetochore in a biophysical approach. Iva will share her award with Juraj Gregan (Department of Chromosome Biology, University of Vienna) and Daniela Climini (Department of Biological Sciences, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, USA). Congratulations to the successful applicants from everybody of the MPI-CBG! |
