The International Max Planck Research School for Molecular Cell Biology and Bioengineering (IMPRS-MCBB), established in 2001, is a joint program of the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics (MPI-CBG) and the Technische Universität Dresden (TUD).

The IMPRS-MCBB offers scientific training and research at the cutting edge, with the level of analysis ranging from single molecules to multi-cellular organisms. The primary question “How do cells form tissues?” focuses on basic molecular mechanisms of eukaryotic cells and how they are used in tissue formation by combining molecular cell and developmental biology, genetics and biophysics. Complementary research in neurobiology, bioengineering and bioinformatics provides a powerful platform to bridge between basic research and its potential applications in medicine and bioengineering. The IMPRS-MCBB is dedicated to advanced training of exceptional young scientists; it places great emphasis on expert thesis supervision and promotes the ability to independently address research questions in an interdisciplinary context.

The IMPRS-MCBB cooperates with the Dresden International Graduate School for Biomedicine and Bioengineering (DIGS-BB) which has been awarded to the TUD by the Excellence Initiative of the German federal and state government in 2006.
