Staff is extremely happy with funding and quality of facilitiesIn this year's survey about the top places to work for postdocs conducted among readers of The Scientist, the MPI-CBG was ranked number four for institutions outside of the United States. 2,881 readers of The Scientist and registrants on The Scientist web site assessed their working environment according to 43 criteria in 11 different areas in a web-based survey conducted from September to November 2010. Institutions were ranked based on factors like the quality of training and mentoring, career development opportunities, the quality of communication, or networking opportunities. Percentiles indicate the ranking of the institution and are computed among the 93 institutions that were ranked. The overall score for the MPI-CBG was 4.09 (percentile: 87%). The topic rating for funding is 3.84 (equaling a percentile of 100% which is the top), the topic rating for the quality of facilities and infrastructure is 93%. However, only 1/2 respondents (47%) stated that they feel their principal investigator takes time to discuss the science behind the experiments and other work they do. Each year The Scientist surveys scientists worldwide to gather their assessments of their places of work, and publishes the results in The Scientist's Best Places to Work reports - one for postdocs, industry scientists, and academics. Now in their ninth year, these reports have become the benchmark for evaluating scientists' places of work. |
