Bruce Alberts: "Science and the World's Future"

What are new opportunities for scientists today, and what are the challenges they have to face? How will science and technology improve the human condition? When and how is science hampered by bureaucracy and a lack of energy, innovation, and resources? What could the international scientific community look like in 20 years or so?

Bruce Alberts, Chief Editor of Science and former president of the National Academy of Sciences of the USA, talked about "Science and the World's Future" in front of the  packed MPI-CBG auditorium.

A gripping, psychological thriller set in the world of genetic research was  shot in February and March 2011 at the MPI-CBG: 'Errors of the Human Body'.
It is the feature directorial debut of Eron Sheean, an Australian writer/director currently working in Germany, and was developed over the past five years in collaboration with the institute.

"Every breakthrough has a price" says the tagline of this movie. The Dresden Forum on Science and Society has continuously supported this project because it poses important questions: What happens when research ignores human emotional needs? What if science is divorced from the human, moral and ethical concerns broader society lives by? The Forum will also organise a first Dresden screening.
