People

Davide Accardi
Predoc

Davide studies the behavior of dynein motors during the meiotic nuclear oscillations. He is interested in the spatio-temporal organization of dyneins in the cell, which drives the oscillations.

Vaishnavi Ananthanarayanan
Predoc

Vaishnavi does single-molecule studies of the motor protein dynein in vivo. She uses the meiotic nuclear oscillations of fission yeast as a system for studying the life of a single dynein molecule.

Mariola Rodriguez Chacon
Postdoc

Mariola’s project involves studying centrosome positioning in HeLa cell. She will first determine if the dominant force involved in centrosome positioning is pushing or pulling and then explore the different contributions of these forces.

Miguel Coelho
Predoc

Miguel studies replicative aging in fission yeast, merging biophysical and molecular genetics approaches. He wants to test the presence of aging in this symmetrically dividing eukaryote, focusing on the segregation patterns of internal cellular components upon cell division.

Gheorghe Cojoc
Postdoc

Coming from an engineering background, Geo has a strong interest in biophysics. Currently he is investigating the mechanisms underlying proper chromosomes segregation in fission yeast during meiosis I.

Petrina Delivani
Postdoc

Petrina studies the mechanism of chromosome pairing in fission yeast during meiosis, specifically addressing the question of how homologues find each other.

Iana Kalinina
Predoc

Iana investigates the forces in the mitotic spindle involved in spindle alignment and chromosome capture. She focuses on cytoplasmic (interphase and astral), as well as intranuclear microtubules.

Anna Klemm
Postdoc

Anna studies chromosome oscillations during mitotic metaphase. She is interested in the biophysical mechanism that drives the oscillations and how the oscillations help the cell to ensure correct microtubule attachment.

Alexander Krull
Student

Alex is the lab’s image processing and computer science expert. He is involved in developing various software tools for tracking proteins in the fission yeast cell.

Nicola Maghelli
Postdoc

Nicola constructed a two-photon microscope, laser ablation, and optical tweezers setup. He is the group’s microscopy expert. Currently, his research focuses on the mechanisms of nuclear centering in interphase.

Manuel Neetz
Predoc

Manuel wants to understand how molecular motors work in concert to facilitate complex coordinated movements, in particular during cell division. Currently his aim is to reconstitute self-organized meiotic nuclear oscillations in vitro, which are mediated by dynein and microtubules.

Damien Ramunno-Johnson
Postdoc

Damien is currently investigating how the process of mitotic spindle assembly occurs in S. pombe. He is also one of the group’s experts in data analysis.

Hannes Weiße
Lab Technician

Hannes is the go-to person in the lab for chemicals, strains, and general lab management. He is also pursuing his Diploma in Mathematics at the Technische Universität Dresden.
