Biopolis Dresden

MPI-CBG promoted the build-up of a network of excellence recognising that no research institution can maintain international ranking in isolation. How do you recruit top ranked scientists from around the world if there are no opportunities for their spouses or partners? How do you initiate multi-disciplinary research projects? How do you win community support if there are no obvious benefits to the region?

The MPI-CBG has been very successful in recruiting scientists from around the world, which serves as a testament to the attractiveness of this very early stage of Dresden’s build-up in the life sciences. The community of life sciences research institutions and biotechnology companies in Dresden have resulted in the creation of BIOPOLIS Dresden, a new economy for biotechnology and life sciences research in Dresden, Germany.
